ACER Scholarship Tests 2022

Approximately 250 independent schools use the ACER Scholarship Tests across Australia. And applicants are to explicitly validate their range of skills such as the ability to interpret, infer, deduce, and think critically. It is noteworthy that the tests are not curriculum-based and do not examine the ability to recover learned knowledge, nor are they diagnostic.
It’s been known that ACER produces the tests, presents them to schools, marks applicants’ papers, and reports applicant results back to each school.

Benefits of ACER Scholarship Tests

  • High quality, extensively trialed test items
  • Available to Australian and international students
  • Flexible test program
  • Skills-based, highly refined tests designed to identify outstanding performance
  • Easy online registration

ACER Scholarship Tests 2022 Cycle

The cycle is as follows;

  • Firstly, school registers test date with ACER,
  • Secondly, parents register and pay for each school they wish to apply to,
  • Next, the student sits the test,
  • Thereafter, ACER marks applicants’ test papers,
  • Then, ACER reports back to school,
  • And school informs parents if a scholarship is awarded,
  • Finally, ACER or school distributes result reports to parents.

Similarly,

Secondary level tests (entry into Years 7 to 12 – Levels 1, 2, and 3)

In general, four separate sub-tests are administered by ACER;

First,

Test 1: Written Expression (extended response, 25 minutes)

Certainly, two topics are set for writing in order to let students use different styles of writing. That is to say, they are given different tests (one in Test 1 and one in Test 4). This test, therefore, is related to the student’s ability to express thoughts and ideas in writing.

Test 2: Humanities – Comprehension and Interpretation (multiple-choice, 40 minutes)

This test also, asks students to answer questions concerned with written and visual material. Maybe, the materials are taken from subject areas such as English, Art, History, Geography, and Social Studies. Therefore, there is no assumption of knowledge, and all the information needed will be provided. Hence, Students are expected to critically think and make decisions on different types of texts, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, cartoons, diagrams, and maps.

Test 3: Mathematics (multiple-choice, 40 minutes)

Probably, you wondering how to walk up to ACER test centers while living 200km away? Worry no more! You just have to opt into the cooperative program!

Excited? Read more!

Cooperative program

The most important decision to be made by a new school is the decision to partake in one of ACER’s cooperative programs or to choose their own alternative test date. That is to say that the cooperative programs allow a large number of schools to test on the same dates. Maybe, the applicant registers for several schools (up to six), sit the test once and demand results to be delivered to all schools within the cooperative program to which they have applied.
But in the instance where applicants enroll in more than one school, they are needed to prioritize their preference towards the schools applied to and will sit the test at the top school on their list. Moreover, students can still be selected by the school regardless of their preference.

Hence, the benefits of using cooperative programs are as follows:

  • a large group of applicants that may consider registering for your school.
  • a schools’ applicants’ results compared to a large cohort of students.
  • access to ACER-managed test centers in some regional and overseas locations for applicants who are more than 200kms from a participating cooperative school.
  • the opportunity for schools to partake in joint advertising to share costs
  • and conclusively, applicants sit only one test for one or several school applications.

On the other hand, schools not selected as a part of the cooperative program may likely select an alternative test date. Thereby, applicants will sit the test at your school on the nominated date and subsequent results will be reported to your school only.
