The United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) is a military academy located just north of Colorado Springs, Colorado. 2. Participate in extra curriculum activities

Participating in several school activities (both athletic and non-athletic) enhances your application and demonstrates that you are a competitive applicant.

Your Admissions Liaison Officer (ALO) can handle all of your admissions inquiries and walk you through the procedure. It’s best if you contact an ALO as soon as possible and keep in touch with them throughout the registration process. 

This individual will also serve as your primary source of information while you gear up for the in-person interview.

6. Fill out the Candidate Pre-Questionnaire.

Beginning March 1 of your junior year, you are qualified to answer the questionnaire. The closing date is December 31. 

To fill up the questionnaire, you will require the following details: 

  • Birthdate, complete legal name, including social security number 
  • A mailing address, a residential address, and an email address are all required. 
  • The name of the high school and the number of students in each class. 
  • Grading system average grade and school rank (on a weighted 4.0 scale) 
  • Scores from one or more examinations, such as the PSAT, PreACT, SAT, and/or ACT.

7. Make an effort to get a nomination for your application.

Because this is a tough and time-consuming process, it’s ideal to start looking for a nomination as soon as possible. 

Nominations must also come from a recognized nominating sector and a legitimate nominating body. The Academy must accept nominations by January 31 of each year. The following are the official nomination categories: 

  • Congressional. 

Each member of Congress is authorized to send a maximum of 5 cadets to the school at any given time, and each position can be filled by nominating 10 candidates. Contact your regional congressperson’s department if you want to be considered for a congressional nomination

  • Vice President of the United States 

The Vice President of the United States, like members of Congress, can recommend up to ten persons for up to five positions.  The Academy offers recommendations to the Vice President’s office based on your admissions file after you submit your application. 

  • Affiliated with the military.

8. Request your official transcripts.
