CIA Internship Program in USA, 2021

Working for the CIA is an aspiration for so many young Nigerians and this is for so many reasons. One of them being the prestige that comes with the Job. As prestigious as the job might look, It has one of the most intense recruitment processes in the USA. Some reports say that it is only the office of the President of the USA that is harder to get into than the CIA.

However, this post is not about the full-time position at the CIA but rather their undergraduate and graduate internship programs for 2021. The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) offers a very exciting and challenging internship and Cooperative Education (Co-op) experience for students in the United State.

One thing the CIA is clearly looking for is smart people. And physically fit people. And people who can keep a secret, which obviously is very important.

The CIA Internship program is open to all full-time students pursuing an undergraduate degree in a 4-year academic institution in the USA or full-time students enrolled in a graduate program of study in the USA also.

What is the Eligibility for CIA Internship Program?

To be eligible for this internship with the CIA, the student applying must meet the following requirements;

  • The applicant must be US citizenship (dual-national US citizens are eligible) All positions require relocation to the Washington, DC metro area.
  • Must be a full-time student pursuing an undergraduate degree in a 4-year academic institution with at least one semester completed at the time of application; there is no preferred major or program of study. Please include your college/university information under the Education Section of the online application with your anticipated graduation date OR
  • Full-time student pursuing a graduate degree in one of the following fields or related studies:
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Computer Engineering
  • Computer Science
  • Data Science/Analytics
  • Machine Learning
  • Mathematics
  • Networking
  • Programming
  • Project/Program Management
  • Software Engineering
  • Systems Engineering
  • RF/Wireless Communications
  • Competitive applicants enrolled in 2-year degree programs that feed into accredited 4-year programs will be considered. Please address your plans to continue studying at a 4-year college/university in your cover letter. If competitive, proof of acceptance into the 4-year program is required prior to entering on duty
  • A GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4-point scale at the time of application and maintained throughout the application process and internship program
  • Availability to complete two 90-day summer internships (the first summer internship typically starts May or June 2021 and the second will start May or June 2022)
  • Attending school on a full-time basis before/following this internship
  • Impeccable integrity
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated interest in foreign affairs and national security issues
  • Commitment to serving the interests of our country
  • Interest in a career with the CIA’s Directorate of Operations following graduation
  • Due to processing requirements, the DO will not consider applicants who travel out of the US for more than three consecutive months between January 2021 – May 2020. Extended foreign travel is discouraged between January 2021 – May 2021 as well
  • Foreign language skills and/or overseas experience is an added advantage.
  • To be considered suitable for Agency employment, applicants must generally not have used illegal drugs within the last 12 months. The issue of illegal drug use prior to 12 months ago is carefully evaluated during the medical and security processing.

Graduate Internship at CIA

According to this post on Quora, if you apply as a graduate student and are selected, you will either work at centers of CIA Directorate of Intelligence or analytic offices. Your main job would be to research, analyze, write and brief on international events and developments, while working in a team. So if stuff like the Navy SEAL raid on Al-Shabaab errorists in Somalia interests you, perhaps you should think about interning with the Agency.

You will Work from the Washington, DC area office, where you will perform duties typical of a Collection Management Officer or Staff Operations Officer, teaming with knowledgeable professionals to facilitate the collection and dissemination of foreign intelligence used by US national security, defense, and foreign policy officials and intelligence analysts.

How much is the Salary for CIA Interns 2021?

The internship is paid. CIA not only pays its interns, but may also pay for transportation, and relocation in the Washington, DC area. You will have to move to the nation’s capital or its adjoining areas to intern with the Agency. Sorry, no exceptions.The starting salary for a CIA Intern is $43,300 ($20.74 per hour)

Deadline for Application into CIA

We accept applications from March 1 – June 18 for the summer of the following year.
