Out of a total applicant pool of 23,110, Dartmouth College accepted 2,180 students for the Class of 2016 with a record-low acceptance rate of 9.4 percent. Accepted students hail from all 50 states and 49 countries.

During the 2018-19 Dartmouth College admissions process, 22,033 new applications were received from applicants, 61% of the number enrolled and only 8 to7% were finally admitted. 

However, for the Class of 2020, Dartmouth College offered admission to a total of 2,176 students out of an applicant pool of 20,675. This marks an overall admit rate of 10.5% for the college founded by Eleazar Wheelock to educate Native Americans.

Now, for class 2022, 1,169 students enrolled out of 22,033 applications received.

Dartmouth Admission Statistics

Dartmouth College offered admission to the 2023 class to 1876 students with a 7.93 percent overall approval rate, lower than the 8.74 percent acceptance rate last year when Dartmouth College extended acceptance offers 1925 from their class applicants for the year 2022.

However, the total number of students admitted includes 574 students admitted during a process Make early decisions in December. The total number of applicants increased by 7.34 percent to 23,650 students out of 22,003 applicants last year.

Also, 51 percent of U.S. citizens admitted are people of color, 12 percent of all students accepted are citizens of a foreign country, and 9 percent of U.S. citizens who are admitted are children of Dartmouth Alumni, and it represents 49 different religious traditions among students who are accepted.

Note, admission to Dartmouth is need-blind for all U.S. citizens, permanent residents of the U.S., undocumented students in the U.S., and persons granted a refugee visa by the U.S. government.

SAT Score is one of the criteria that Dartmouth college puts into consideration before a student is being accepted. All applicants are expected to submit SAT or ACT scores.

For the evidence-based reading and writing section, 50% of students admitted to Dartmouth scored between 710 and 770, while 25% scored less than 710 and 25% higher than 770 in the Department of Mathematics, 50% of students admitted scored between 730 and 790 while 25% scored below 730 and 25% higher than 790.

Applicants who obtained an SAT score of 1560 or more will have special competitive opportunities in Dartmouth.

Requirements

Dartmouth does not require an SAT writing department. Please note that Dartmouth is participating in the score program, which means that the admission office will look at your highest score for each department separately on all SAT test dates.

At Dartmouth, applicants are encouraged to submit SAT test scores on two different subjects.

Dartmouth requires that all applicants submit either SAT or ACT scores. During the 2018-19 admissions cycle, 41% of admitted students submitted ACT scores.

Most of Dartmouth’s admitted students fall within the top 3% nationally on the ACT. The middle 50% of students admitted to Dartmouth received a composite ACT score between 32 and 35, while 25% scored above 35 and 25% scored below 32.

Requirements

Note that Dartmouth does not super score ACT results; your highest composite ACT score will be considered. Dartmouth does not require the ACT writing section. Regardless of whether you submit the ACT or SAT, Dartmouth recommends that applicants submit SAT Subject test scores in two different subject areas.

Dartmouth acceptance GPA

The average GPA at Dartmouth is 4.09. 

With a GPA of 4.09, Dartmouth requires you to be at the top of your class. You’ll need nearly straight A’s in all your classes to compete with other applicants. You should also have taken plenty of AP or IB classes to show your ability to excel in the academic challenges.

If you’re junior or senior, your GPA is hard to change from this point on. If your GPA is at or below the school average of 4.09, you’ll need a higher SAT score to compensate and show that you’re prepared to take on college academics. This will help you compete effectively with other applicants.

Do Dartmouth College provide Financial Aids?

Yes of course. Dartmouth College Financial Aid can come in the form of grants, internships programs or scholarships. The school has Undergraduate financial aid expenditures in 2019 of $105.7 million.

Dartmouth tuition for Undergraduate students is $55,605. Then room, board, and mandatory fees are $17,973 making it a total of $76,623.

Note, the tuition for the four different schools in Dartmouth varies. Like, Students of Geisel School of Medicine pay $65,566, Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies students pay $55,605, while students in Thayer School of Engineering and Tuck School of Business pay $55,605 and $75,108 respectively.

How many schools Does Dartmouth College have?

Dartmouth College has four different schools. They include:

Dartmouth Gesell College of Medicine

Established in 1797, the school has proven to be one of the best medical schools in the country and is known for being a leader in many developments in education, research, and patient care.

However, the school covers 18 departments of clinical and basic science and is based on resources from Dartmouth College and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.

In addition to the MD degree, Geisel School offers postgraduate studies in Biomedical Sciences and Public Health, as well as Healthcare Sciences in cooperation with Tuck School of Business.

Frank Guarini College of Graduate and Advanced Studies

Similarly, Frank Guarini was established in 2018. The school offers a graduate program in Arts and Sciences and it also has a long history in Dartmouth. Over 700 students are enrolled in graduate programs in Arts and Sciences.

Procedures for Dartmouth College Application

Firstly, to apply to Dartmouth, you must do the following:

  • Fill out the Common Application, answer Dartmouth’s supplementary questions, and pay an application fee of $80 (or apply for a fee waiver)
  • Submit an ACT or SAT score, along with your writing score
  • Also, submit your high school transcript and a school report
  • Two letters of recommendation from your teachers and one from your guidance counselor
  • Submit the results of two SAT Subject tests (recommended but not required)
  • You may submit an optional Arts Supplement)

What are the timelines for the Dartmouth application?

At Dartmouth, two application admission programs exist:

  • Early Decision programs 
  • Regular Decision applications.

Dartmouth Early Decision program can improve your chances of admission. However, you need to be absolutely sure that the College is your dream school.

If not, it is better to stick with Regular Decision. You may want to delay your application if you want time for finishing supplementary questions and application essays.

Below are Deadlines for freshmen starting fall 2021

Single-choice Early Decision Candidates

  • Application deadline – November 1st, 2021

  • Financial aid – November 1st, 2021

Regular Decision Candidates

  • Application deadline – January 2nd, 2021
  • SAT/ACT test – December 2021
  • Financial aid –February 1st, 2021

Note:

All Early Decision applicants are notified of the admissions committee decision by mid-December. You would be notified of your financial aid tentative award at the same time. Applicants have until late December to notify the College of their intent to join.

Regular Decision candidates are intimidated by the board’s decision by April 1st. Regular Decisions applicants are required to send in their replies before May 1st.
