Indiana University GPA Requirements

Despite the fact that there is a minimum GPA requirement specified by many schools, GPA requirements are just the minimum scores you’re expected to submit along with your application so as not to get rejected immediately.

The GPA requirement that really matters is the GPA you need to stand a real chance of getting in. Below is Indiana University’s average GPA for its current students.

GPA

If you get a GPA of 3.73, you are expected to be around average in your high school class. You’ll need a combination of A’s and B’s, and a few C’s. If you have a lower GPA, you can use courses like AP or IB classes which are quite hard to make up and help boost your weighted GPA and show you can take college classes.

However, your GPA will be hard to change in time for college applications if you’re currently junior or senior. A school average of 3.4 GPA or below will require a higher SAT or ACT score to compensate. With such a GPA you will be able to compete against other applicants who have higher GPAs.

SAT and ACT Requirements

Different schools implement different requirements for standardizing tests. The majority of the schools require the SAT or ACT, while others also require SAT subject tests.

Before you submit an application to Indiana University, it’s either you take the SAT or ACT  test. You must perform well in the test to have a strong application.

Indiana University SAT Requirements

Despite the fact that most schools don’t have an official cutoff SAT score, there is actually a hidden SAT requirement based on the school’s average score.

The average SAT score composite is 1160 on the 1600 SAT scale. Therefore, the University of Tampa is competitive in SAT test scores.

Indiana University New SAT 25th percentile score is 1160, and the New SAT 75th percentile score is 1350. Getting an 1160 New SAT score puts you below average, while 1350 will put you above average.

Below is a breakdown of new SAT scores by section:

SAT Score Choice Policy

Indiana University’s score choice policy of “Highest Section” is a very crucial part of their testing strategy. Also known as “super scoring”, you can choose the SAT tests to send. The admission committee at Indiana University will consider your highest section scores from all the different SAT test dates you submit.

Therefore, if you have a low SAT Super score of below 1160, you should consider preparing for the SAT and retaking it. Having a higher score will boost your chances of getting into Indiana University.

Additionally, the Superscore helps you focus on a single section at a time. If your Reading score is lower than your other sections, then you should only prepare for the Reading section, next taking the SAT, and the Math test next to get the highest Superscore possible.

Indiana University ACT Requirements

Just like for the SAT, based on the Indiana University acceptance rate, there’s no known hard ACT cutoff mark. However, if your score is low, you won’t stand a chance of being admitted into the university.

UI’s average ACT score is 28. This score makes it less competitive in terms of ACT scores.

The ACT score 25th percentile is 24, while the ACT score 75th percentile is 31.

Indiana University has no minimum ACT requirement, but if your ACT score is 24 or below, you won’t stand a chance of getting into UT, unless your application is very unique. An ACT score of less than 24 will look academically weak.

Therefore, you should prepare for the ACT test and retake it if your ACT score is currently less than 24. You will have a  higher chance of getting in if you are able to raise your score.

Additionally, the Superscore will help you focus all your energy on a single section at a time. A Reading score that is lower than your other sections, requires you to prepare only for the Reading section, before taking the ACT. and Math test, and so on. With this, you will be able to have the high Superscore possible.

SAT Subject Test Requirements

SAT subject test requirements are different in many schools. Some selective schools will need them, while others won’t.

There’s no information if Indiana University requires SAT subject tests, but we believe that the school does not. However, endeavor to double-check 6 months before applying to make sure you have enough time to take the test.

Because of how moderately selective Indiana University is, it is very necessary to have a strong academic performance so as to increase your chance of getting admission. If you score 1160 SAT or 24 ACT or above, then you can be sure of admission. UI admits 78% of all applicants.

Get a high SAT/ACT score, meet the rest of the application requirements, and your GPA should be close to the school average of 3.73. Depending on your score merits, you also need amazing extracurriculars and impressive letters of recommendation to get in.
