History

In 1977, Arthur Keiser and his mother, Evelyn, created a career college known as Keiser School. Keiser School in Fort Lauderdale to prepare students for work in Florida’s expanding healthcare and business communities. In 1982, following the addition of paralegals and computer courses, the school was changed to its current name, the Keiser Institute for Technology. In 1986, the Keiser Institute of Technology began awarding associate degrees. It later changed its name to Keiser College. It was in 2001 that Keiser introduced its first bachelor’s degrees. In 2006, the profit school changed its name once more and changed its name to Keiser University.

In 2010 The Florida Attorney General started to probe Keiser University as well as other for-profit institutions located in the state. However, in 2012, the probe was concluded, and Keiser signed the “assurance of voluntary compliance”. In the year 2011, Keiser University changed from a for-profit model to a non-profit model the year that Arthur Keiser sold the institution for an undisclosed amount in exchange for Everglades College Inc., which is a non-profit organization created by Keiser, who also runs Everglades University. 

In the year 2015, Keiser University added a 100-acre campus for its flagship residential campus situated in West Palm Beach, on the former site of what was previously Northwood University’s Florida campus. This expansion aimed to aid students having traditional and residential academic experiences located in West Palm Beach, Florida. In the year 2016, the university established the College that was named the College of Chiropractic Medicine, which was founded by Professor Dr. Michael Wiles, serving as the Dean. It is the first College that has been of this type to be launched by a doctor in South Florida.

In 2017, the company’s CEO and President, Arthur Keiser, became chair of the U.S. Department of Education’s National Advisory Committee on Institutional Quality and Integrity (NACIQI). Keiser was appointed first by a secretary of Education Margaret Spellings and reappointed twice by Republicans.

Athletics

The Keiser athletic teams are known as the Seahawks. The school is a part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), mostly playing within the Sun Conference (formerly known as the Florida Sun Conference (FSC) until the end of the school year 2007-08) in the academic year. It is not part of the football team, which is with the Mid-South Conference (MSC). Before July 15, the Seahawks were a part of Northwood University’s West Palm Beach campus.

Keiser plays in 26 intercollegiate and varsity sports. The sports for men include baseball and basketball, cross-country football, golf, soccer, lacrosse, tennis, track & field (indoor and outdoor), and wrestling.
