 Leiden University Walraven Scholarships 2022, Netherlands.

The Walraven scholarship is available for excellent, non-Dutch master’s students. The scholarships are intended for students who have a bachelor’s degree in astronomy or physics and wish to obtain their master’s (MSc.) degree in Astronomy and Instrumentation at Leiden University. Successful candidates must be of outstanding academic merit and in need of financial support.

The Walraven scholarship is for one year, with conditional renewal for a second year upon successful completion of the first year. For a full scholarship, the tuition fee for the Astronomy Research master’s program will be reduced to the amount of the home fee and you will receive an allowance of up to €11,000 per year for living costs. Partial scholarships may also be awarded. The Walraven scholarship is paid as a monthly allowance. Statutory tuition fee

The statutory tuition fee applies if you are going to follow a government-subsidized study program, which is not a second-degree program, and you are a national of Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Suriname, Sweden, Switzerland or the United Kingdom.

The statutory tuition fee applies if you are going to study full-time or part-time.
The statutory tuition fee is: €2,143 (2022-2023 academic year)

Students following the Liberal Arts and Sciences program at Leiden University College The Hague (LUC) pay an additional institutional tuition fee of €2,385 (2022-2023 academic year)

Students who are not nationals of an EEA country, Suriname or Switzerland

Please be informed that if you are not a national of an EEA country, Suriname or Switzerland, you generally have to pay an institutional tuition fee. However, if, on the basis of your Dutch residence permit, you are eligible for student finance from the Dutch education agency (DUO), you are entitled to pay the statutory tuition fee. Information on qualifying residence permits can be found on the site of DUO.

If you do not qualify for Dutch student finance and you are not a national of an EEA country, Suriname or Switzerland, you can find the amount of tuition fee you are required to pay for your study program here. These tariffs apply for both full-time and part-time study.

Second Dutch bachelor’s program

However, if you are taking a second Dutch bachelor’s program, you will generally have to pay an institutional tuition fee that is higher than the statutory tuition fee.

If you obtained a Dutch bachelor’s, doctoral, ingenious, or HBO (bachelor’s from a university of applied sciences) diploma after 1991, and you are a national of an EEA country (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom), Suriname or Switzerland, the following institutional tuition fees apply. Leiden University Admission Requirements 2022:

Academic requirements for Leiden University Tuition 2022: Scholarships and Cost of Living

Did you know that some Dutch diplomas grant automatic admission to Bachelor’s programs at Leiden University? However, you can check in the program information whether your diploma grants you automatic admission. Nevertheless, you cannot be automatically admitted, and must instead apply for admission, if:

  1. Must be an international student (you have a non-Dutch diploma).
  2. You are a Dutch student without the appropriate VWO diploma (you have an international diploma or a VWO diploma that falls short of the applicable requirements, for example)
  3. You are applying for a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences: Global Challenges (LUC The Hague).

Nevertheless, the minimum requirement for admission to any bachelor’s program at Leiden University is a diploma that is at least equal to the Dutch pre-university diploma (VWO). Their Admissions Office has drawn up a list of common non-Dutch diplomas that generally meet the minimum academic requirements. If your diploma does not meet these requirements you may still be admitted, on the condition that you sit additional exams. What do you need to do now?
Register for the bachelor’s program in Studielink by 1 June 2022, fill in this form, and request a statement from your university of applied sciences on whether you can reasonably be expected to be able to complete your propedeuse by 31 December 2022 (afrondingsadvies). Add this statement to your application for admission to the bachelor’s program in their uSis online application portal by 1 August at the latest. The bachelor’s program will decide whether to admit you to the program. If it does, this will be on the condition that you complete your propaedeutic by 31 December 2022. However, if you do not manage to do so, your registration for the bachelor’s program will be canceled.
