About Nottingham

Nottingham is a vibrant city known for its shopping, rich culture and history, nightlife, and sport.

About Nottingham Trent University

Nottingham Trent University is a public university in Nottingham, England. The origin of the university dates back to 1843 when it opened as the Nottingham Government School of Design. It originated from the Nottingham Government School of Design founded in 1843 and was formed by the amalgamation of many separate institutions of higher education. It became a polytechnic in 1970 and was granted university status in 1992.

With the motto ‘shaping futures’, NTU offers over 500 different degree programs to around 27,000 students across three campuses (City, Clifton, and Brackenhurst), overseen by nine different academic schools.

The university prides itself on its global outlook, with almost 7,000 of its students studying overseas at partner colleges and around 2,600 international students enrolled at its Nottingham sites.

Additionally, the university hosts a Global Week event each year that celebrates cultural diversity in a five-day festival of food, music, dance, cinema, and drama.

NTU has been awarded Green Flags for the sustainability of its Brackenhurst and Clifton campuses while the People & Planet Green League recently ranked it one of the most environmentally-friendly universities in the UK.

A £350 million investment in recent years has led to significant developments in NTU’s estate, including the regeneration of two Grade II* listed buildings, Newton and Arkwright, which include a glazed center court with walk-around balcony, and cafes, deli-bars, and student services.

The quadrangle on campus, located next to the building where silicone was invented by Frederick Kipping, provides a quiet space for students to work and relax.

Campus

Nottingham Trent University has five campuses: City Campus, Clifton Campus, Confetti Campus, Brackenhurst, and Mansfield.

City Campus

The City site is located just north of Nottingham City Centre and is home to over 17,000 students from Nottingham Business School, Nottingham Law School, School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment, School of Art & Design, School of Social Sciences, and the Centre for Broadcasting & Journalism, which regenerated Newton and Arkwright, two of the university’s largest and oldest owned buildings. Sir David Attenborough officially opened the two buildings on 18 May 2011.

Boots Library

The Boots Library is the main library of the university located in the center of the city site and supports the schools of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment, Art & Design, Nottingham Business School, Nottingham Law School, and Social Sciences. The library is a modern purpose-built building, completed in 1998 at a total cost of £13m, and has over 533,000 books and 2,500 journals in addition to DVDs, newspapers, and magazines. It is set over four levels plus a further level dedicated to 24-hour computing facilities. There are also branch libraries on the Clifton and Brackenhurst campuses serving the schools located there and include additional Animal Planet digital facilities.

Clifton campus

The Clifton campus is home to over 9,000 students from the School of Arts and Humanities, School of Science and Technology, and School of Education. The campus is located 4 miles (6 kilometers) outside the city center. It is a self-contained, greenfield site. It hosts an Anthony Nolan Trust Cord Blood Bank, and the John van Geest Cancer Research Centre, recipient of the largest research grant awarded to a post-1992 university. The Clifton campus has benefited from investments including the Lee Westwood Sports Centre and student accommodation. Clifton campus is linked to the City site by a regular student bus service operated by NCTX.
