What’s a Doodle?

Who designs Doodles for Google?

Previously, a team of engineers that worked for Google was responsible for these designs, but there is now a contest every year to select the best doodle. It means that you can create a doodle if you’re a student in or under grade 12, and your school is in any of the 50 states of the United States of America. You can also be a part of this contest in Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Virgin Islands in addition to the US.

There are now doodles for Google contests held in India, Canada, and Asia.

Milo from Kentucky won the Doodle For Google Competition 2021 contest last year with his Doodle titled “Finding Hope.” Google is honored to award Milo with a $30,000 college scholarship and a $50,000 technology award for his school.

In 1998, Google found the Doodle for Google’s annual competition. It is an annual competition in various countries that have children create doodles that will feature on Google’s homepage. It is primarily for fun.

Google features these logos on their local homepage, usually for public holidays in the country.
In the past, events such as the beginning of spring, the anniversary of understanding DNA, or the invention of the laser has been celebrated.

The first Google, “doodle” was in 1998 when Sergey Brin and Lawrence E Page were attending the Burning Man Festival. They wanted to show that they were out of the office and unable to help if the systems were to crash. Since then, it has become a traditional competition in several countries. Doodle For Google Competition 2023

Applying for Doodle4Google.

Every year, Google hosts the doodle4google event in different countries. These events are hosted by Google for each country.
As it is usual, several students register for this event. Students can work with any materials they want but must fit into the theme for the year’s competition. Also, all doodles must be entered using the entry form. Entry forms are available for download online from the competition site.
Also, parents and teachers can submit the completed entry form via mail or submit it online. It must be as a .png or .jpg if the submission is online.

Doodle4Google Criteria.

The Doodle4Google competition is a competition for kids. And as such, only kids in kindergarten and grades 1-12 are eligible for the competition.
This means that the applicant must be a registered student attending a private, public, or home school.
Students who are still minors must have written consent from their primary guardians.

Doodle:
Artists create their Doodles using any materials they want. From crayons to clay to found objects.

Write:
Artist’s statement must tell about what he/she has done and how it represents kindness to you.

Also, the artist is to provide the required information and sign the entry form.

Submitting Doodles.

There are different ways to submit your design to doodle for google competition 2023. However, it depends on how you created the doodle.

Entry form doodles. These are doodles that are created directly on an entry form. You can upload them directly as a .jpg or .png. However, you may also mail them to the address listed on the site.

Other doodles. If the doodle was not created directly on our entry form, the process is also similar. Just take a high-res digital photo or scan of the doodle in good lighting and combine it with the entry form.

Judging Criteria.

It is very important to know the judging criteria of any competition one goes for. This knowledge gives an edge on what to and what not to do. What to focus on and what to pay lesser attention to. This helps understand the scope and nature of the challenge.
The Doodle for Google competition also has its own judging criteria and areas of concentration. These criteria are used by the judges to know which Doodle wins.

Doodles are judged by the following parameters:

Artistic merit:
This is based on the artistic skill of the participant. Since it’s an art contest, artistic skill is very important.

Creativity:
The representation of the contest theme is also a big one. The use of the letters in the Google logo, as well as the unique approach to the doodle, is important.

Theme communication:
How well the contestants express the theme of the contest. The expression should be obvious in both the artwork as well as the written statement.

After submission, doodles are grouped and judged by the following 5-grade groups:

Grades K 3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9 as well as Grades 10-12

Finalists are chosen on a state-by-state basis. 10 or more winners for each grade group, 54 in total. After this, National Finalists are selected. 1 finalist for each grade group, 5 in total. Voting Process.

The voting process for the Doodle4google competition is very open. After all, applications come in, each region conducts a process to select the best 10. After the 10 best, they all are sent to the Google page. Here on the page, the voting is online. People from all over can come online and vote for their favorite.
All entries are then placed into 5 categories of 10 participants each. Out of each category, one winner emerges. Consequently, this reduces the number of entries to 5. Thereafter, a panel of judges would select a winner. However, winning is on the basis of the artist’s ability to deliver using the theme of the competition.

Prizes and Rewards.

Every year, one winner emerges from the 5 national finalists. This person’s doodle gets a one-day feature on Google.com in the country. For instance, the winner of doodle4google India gets their doodle on the Google homepage on a particular date in their country.

National Winner.
The National winner is whoever the judges vote for to have done best. The artwork of this person will be displayed on Google.com for one day.
He or she will also receive:

$30,000 in college scholarships,

$50,000 for a technology package for their school/non-profit organization,

The National Finalists will have their doodles featured on the Doodle for Google gallery.
