OWWA Scholarships Scheme for Filipino Students 2022

The OWWA Scholarships Scheme for Filipino students 2022 is a scholarship program sponsored by the Overseas Workers Welfare Association. It has often been ranked as one of the best scholarship programs for Filipino students.

In other words, if finding a scholarship for a dependent of an OWWA member is what brought you here, then you have come to the right place. In this article, I’d be providing info about the scholarship sub-programs of the OWWA Scholarships Scheme.

Sub-programs of the OWWA Scholarships Scheme for Filipino Students 2022. Education for Development Scholarship Program [EDSP]

The Education for Development Scholarship Program [EDSP] is the best sub-program of the OWWA Scholarships Scheme. Scholarships of this sub-program are stated to have values of PHP 60,000. And if you’re pretty good at your academics, you stand a very good chance of being awarded a scholarship under this sub-program. But what are all the requirements? Well, here we go:

Requirement 1: You must be a dependent of an OWWA member. Without meeting up this requirement, you wouldn’t be considered for this scholarship.

You should also note that the dependents of former OWWA members would not be considered.

Requirement 2: If you happen to be in your first year in school, you must be single and not more than 21 years of age. However, for students who happen to be in their 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th year, you must also be single, but not more than 30 years of age.

Requirement 3: Another important requirement is that you must be pretty good at your academics. In other words, you have at least 80 percent of the total grades at high school.

You must furthermore rank among the top 20 percent of all graduating students.

In addition, you’re expected to rank among the top 400 examination passers of the qualifying exam conducted by the DOST.

As for students who are in their 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th year, the method of proving your academic excellence is quite different. To prove your academic excellence, you’d be expected to have a GWA not less than B. Or if your school doesn’t use letters to indicate grades, you’d be expected to have 85 percent of the total points of your previous academic session.

While the things I have listed above, are the requirements for winning a scholarship under this program, the following are the documents you’d be expected to provide.

• A filled out EDSP Form [Two copies]
• 2 x 2 passport photographs [Two copies]
• PSA-authenticated birth certificate
• Good moral character certificate [From your high school Principal]
• Form 137: for incoming students OR Transcript of Records/Certificate of Grades: for students in their 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th year.
• Certificate of a general weighted average (GWA) from the Principal of your high school. This certificate should show that you have at least 80 percent of your high school grade and that you also finished as one of the top 20 percent.

Application for this scholarship is currently ongoing, and we have little or no idea as to when the application would come to an end.

2. OFW Dependent Scholarship Program [ODSP]

If for one reason or the other, you do not qualify for the Education for Development Scholarship Program [EDSP], you should consider the OFW Dependent Scholarship Program [ODSP]. This scholarship carries a value of PHP 20,000. And it is meant for dependents who are not so good at academics and have guardians who do not have salaries higher than $600.

The following are details of the requirements needed to be awarded this scholarship:

Requirement 1: The first requirement needed to be considered for this scholarship is that you must be the child or sibling of an OWWA member. In other words, not just any dependent would be considered by this scholarship program.

Requirement 2: The second requirement is that you must not be more than 21 years of age. But not only that, you are expected to be single. This doesn’t mean you can’t have a girlfriend. It’s just that you cannot get married before being awarded the scholarship.

You should, however, note that the info provided above applies to only first-year students. For students who are past their first year, you can be married, but you must not be over 30 years of age. If you’re already over 30 years of age, then you aren’t eligible for this scholarship.

Requirement 3: This requirement simply states that anyone who would be considered for this scholarship, should not already be the recipient of another scholarship. In other words, the OFW Dependent Scholarship Program [ODSP] is not a scholarship you can combine with some other scholarship. If you’d like to combine scholarships, then this scholarship is not meant for someone like you.

While the things discussed above are the requirements for being considered for the OFW Dependent Scholarship Program [ODSP], the following are the documents you’d be expected to present:

• A filled out ODSP form
• Two 2 x 2 passport photographs
• Proof of relationship to OWWA member [This could be any credible document [or set of documents] that can prove you’re related to the OWWA member.
• Form 137: for incoming students OR Transcript of Records/Certificate of Grades: for students in their 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th years.
• A medical report showing you’re in a good health condition
• Good moral character certificate [From your high school Principal]

Application for this scholarship can be done at any time, so there’s nothing like application opening and closing date.
