Preparing for credit in a day: is it real?

We all know that credit is a way to test a student’s knowledge of a subject and his or her ability to gain admission to an exam session. Depending on the course, credit can be given in written, oral, or related formats.

Credit is divided into differentiated and non-differentiated, and the main difference is that in the first one you receive a grade, which may affect the scholarship, while in the second one you simply pass or fail. It is commonly believed that differentiated credit is more difficult than its non-differentiated counterpart, but in fact, it is rather arbitrary. The test in higher mathematics in the linguistics department is equally difficult, with or without a grade.

To avoid getting into a vicious circle of retakes, today we will talk about passing tests, including ways to prepare for them so as not to break your brain, not to burn out, and to get an excellent result regardless of the differentiability of the test.

Why is it not always possible to prepare for a test in advance?

Of course, someone will tell you that the best way to pass a test is to prepare for it in advance or study diligently throughout the semester: take all notes, do not skip classes, repeat all the material at home and speak at the seminars. And let’s be frank, such students are few, most are still somehow trying to live between college and home.

That’s why most students remember to pass their exams a day or two before the X-hour. Such people are often called sprinters – young people who prefer to meet with friends, go to cafes, concerts, or movies, and often use essay writing service instead of spending their evenings at their textbooks. And when X hour arrives, they show phenomenal results.

How to prepare for the test in a day to pass it?

Rational method

And let’s start, with one of the most difficult methods, for which you need to have at least a week in reserve. Although even the most careless student can pull himself together for a few days and live for a few days in a strict schedule, which will greatly increase efficiency. Divide the process itself into three stages:

  • Take stock of the material you need to learn: volume, complexity, and so on.
  • Spread out everything you need to learn over the day, and then use a divide-and-conquer approach. Study for 45 minutes and devote 15 minutes to rest, after 5 approaches, a substantial rest. Choose the values according to how you feel.
  • Organize your study space: put in order, prepare everything you need, and get rid of distractions in the form of a smartphone, the Internet, and so on.

This approach allows you to get in-depth knowledge on a particular subject, which will not only bring a good grade but also leave a mark in your memory.

Creative Method

Don’t have a week to prepare? Improvise and create! If you need to prepare for a test in one day, try a creative approach. Here are a few ideas:

  • learn the material in front of a mirror.
  • try to sing or rhyme the most important parts of the lyrics.
  • highlight important points in different colors.
  • mark diagrams and drawings in the margins.

Creativity allows the brain to perceive information differently and thus remember it. Besides, each person is different and some people find it easier to remember visual images, while others do it better audibly.

The Association Method

This method is very similar to the creative approach and also allows you to quickly prepare for credit, literally in a day. It is based on the creation of stable images and associations.

The legendary “Socratic room” method is a great example.

  • when studying a topic, highlight the basic concepts that need to be memorized.
  • when memorizing them mentally arrange them in a certain order in your room.

And that’s it! Once you get the assignment, just mentally walk through that room, remember the necessary route, and answer the question.

The method of teamwork

You can do anything in one day if you have the right team! Call your classmates and prepare for the test together! It’s easier, it’s more fun, and there’s always someone there to help.

The essence is simple, you divide the topics between you and other classmates and prepare answers to several questions, and then tell the others, explaining this or that information, if they have any questions. This will significantly reduce the time to study, and also help you practice the process of speaking in front of the teacher.

The pass-fail method

You have a lot of material in front of you and not enough time to prepare? The pass-fail method is your option! In each topic, focus on the essentials. This could be:

  • basic formulas in math analysis or physics.
  • key dates, events, and figures in history.
  • major trends in psychology or literature and their most iconic figures.

If you are a liberal arts major, this information will often be enough to get you a B or sometimes even an A if you can use logic and association. Teachers want the student to be prepared for the test and may take pity if you don’t do well, but they will see that you have the basics of knowledge.

Tactical method

Be warned that this method is very risky, use it as a last resort! Every student is a good tactician and strategist at heart, so he can do even the most unrealistic tasks, the main thing – the right tactics.

  • find all the questions that will participate in the exam.
  • before the test, make bookmarks in all books on the topics of the test with the number of the exam assignment.
  • go to bed early and try to get a good night’s sleep.
  • come to the test first, but do not go into the auditorium and keep an eye out for those who are pulling exam papers.
  • take out the bookmarks with each drawn-out assignment.
  • when only the last five people are left, distribute the un-drawn topics among you and write cheat sheets. twenty minutes is enough time for the five of you to prepare five or even ten topics.

This is trick students rarely resort to, so the teacher is unlikely to guess about it, but the risk of failing is quite high.

Is it possible to not sleep before a test and prepare all night?

Sleep should be a priority for every student, especially before exams and tests. It has long been known that sleep has a positive effect on memory, creative processes, and reaction speed, and in general, the brain of a person who has slept works much better than the one who spent the night without sleep.

Unfortunately, although these facts have long been known, many students believe that if they spend a whole night preparing for a test or exam, having slept only a couple of hours, they will successfully pass everything. Unfortunately, this is the exception to the rule rather than the rule itself.

Some useful tips for passing any credit

The main advice that can be given is “Never cram anything!”, all this will be forgotten after a couple of hours at best. But in addition to this advice we have five more useful tips that may not be original, but will help for sure!

  • do not memorize but get to the bottom of it. Mechanical memorization does not help, but if you get the essence, then you can guess by the associative series if you forget something.
  • learn in intervals of 20-50 minutes. thanks to brain research, scientists have concluded that continuous reading of information does not yield proper results, and the brain is best at remembering what it was at the beginning and the end.
  • rest is just as important as the learning process itself. the break between approaches should be carried out with maximum benefit: breathing exercises, meditation, physical light exercise, a snack of honey, or fruit.
  • when preparing for a test or exam, you can go through the method of sorting from simple to complex. this will help to get visually track your progress, which will give the necessary motivation and allow you to track your progress.
  • cribs are the best friend of students since ancient times. the principle of their work has long been known, they even sometimes do not need to be used because handwritten is remembered better than something read.
