The Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program

The Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program is one of the World Bank scholarships currently available. It is a great scholarship; in fact, we have people who consider it one of the best scholarships available out there.

However, while the name of the scholarship might contain Japan, the scholarship is meant for people from developing countries. In fact, students of Japan are not allowed into the program.

To recapitulate, only students from the countries listed above, would be considered for the scholarship.

However, being a citizen of one of the above listed countries, is not all you need to be eligible for the scholarship. The scholarship is meant to foster the development of the countries listed above. In other words, for you to be eligible, you must be a someone who’s interested in promoting the development of your country.

So for you to prove you have an interest in the development of your country, you must meet up with the following requirements:

Requirements for the Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program

1. Be a Bachelor Degree Holder: All applicants who would be given consideration must be holders of a Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent degree. And it doesn’t matter what your Bachelor’s Degree is about.

It is also important that it must be over three years since you earned your Bachelor’s Degree. In other words, people who earned their BSc only one or two years ago wouldn’t be eligible for the scholarship.

2. 3 or more years doing development-related work: People who would be considered, are also people who can boast of 3 or more years of development-related work. If you don’t have up to 3 years of development-related work, then you’d have to wait until you have up to three years of experience.

3. 3 or more years doing paid development-related work: Having three or more years of recent development-related work is not enough, it is also important that you have been paid for doing so, for over three years.

In addition, you must also happen to be employed, when applying for the scholarship. You should also note that only work that fall between six years ago and now, are what is going to count when calculating how many years of paid work experience you have.

4. No dual citizenship of any developed country: To be considered for this scholarship, it’s very important you’re also not a citizen of any developed country. For example, if you’re a Nigerian that also has Canadian citizenship, then you wouldn’t be considered for this scholarship.

5. Good health condition: The last requirement is that you must be in good health. People who aren’t in good health wouldn’t be considered, so ensure you’re in good health condition when applying for the scholarship.

What does the scholarship cover?

First and foremost, you should understand that the Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program is a fully-funded world bank scholarship. In other words, it covers things like tuition fees, travel fees, medical fees, accommodation, food, books, etc.

You should also note that the scholarship would also ensure that you receive a certain amount of money, on a monthly basis, as monthly allowance.

However, the scholarship doesn’t consider bringing along a family member. You have the right to bring a family member along with you, but the scholarship wouldn’t pay their expenses.
