About The PEO International Peace Scholarships
The International Peace Scholarship Fund was established in 1949 and is a program that provides scholarships for selected women from other countries for graduate study in the United States and Canada. Members of P.E.O. believe that education is fundamental to world peace and understanding.
The PEO International Peace Scholarship Fund is a program of Women helping women reach for the stars. The fund will provide scholarships for selected women from other countries to undertake their graduate or Ph.D. studies tuition-free in the United States and Canada.
However, the scholarship is based on demonstrated need and is not intended to cover all academic or personal expenses.
PEO International Peace Scholarships for Women Eligibility
- An applicant must be qualified for admission to full-time graduate study and working toward a graduate degree in an accredited college or university in the United States or Canada.
- A student who is a non-citizen or non-permanent resident of the United States or Canada is not eligible.
- Scholarships are not given for research, internships, or practical training unless it is combined with coursework. Awards are not to be used to pay past debts.
- To qualify for her first scholarship, an applicant must have a full year of coursework remaining, be enrolled, and begin,n residence for the entire school year.
- Doctoral students who have completed coursework and are working only on dissertations are not eligible as first-time applicants.
- International students attending county colleges are eligible to apply for a scholarship.

Scholarship Worth
The maximum amount awarded to a student is $12,500. Lesser amounts may be awarded according to individual needs.
The scholarship is based upon demonstrated financial need and the award is not intended to cover all academic or personal expenses. When applying, the applicant is required to confirm additional financial resources adequate to meet his/her estimated expenses. Additional resources may include personal and family funds, tuition waivers, work scholarships, teaching assistantships, study grants, and other scholarships.
Awards are announced in May. The amount of the PEO International scholarship will be divided into two payments to be distributed in August and December

Documents Required For PEO Scholarship Application
Following documents needed at the time of application for PEO scholarships
- Passport issued by the Gov. of Pakistan and visa application for USA or Canada.
- Transcript of the undergraduate course students hand done verified by higher education commission.
- A copy of the confirmation of admission to a university in the USA or Canada.
- Students need to sign a document in which they promise to return to their home country upon completion of the course.
- Students need to submit an application explaining all their expenses and their financial resources.
- Those students who seek admission to Cottey College are required to submit a letter of recommendation by the director of admission of the college along with the confirmation of admission letter.

- March 1: Last day to submit completed application materials from applicants already enrolled in the graduate program and school for which their scholarship is intended.
- April 1: Last day to submit completed application materials from applicants not yet enrolled in the graduate program or school for which the scholarship is intended. Last day to submit completed application materials for applicants who will be attending Cottey College.

Shima Dowla
Shima Dowla has an M.D./Ph.D. in public health from the University of Alabama Birmingham School of Medicine. She began her research while still in high school, studying neurotransmission in ADHD.
Shima’s dissertation focused on the factors influencing healthcare decision-making among residents of a slum in Bangladesh. She acquired an A.B. Magna cum Laude from Dartmouth College with dual majors in neuroscience and Asia/Middle East studies.
After completing her M.D. studies, Shima plans to practice as a pediatric endocrinologist and scientist to alleviate childhood obesity and chronic metabolic diseases in Germany and abroad.
Caitlin Doyle
Caitlin Doyle has a Ph.D. in English Literature and Creative Writing from the University of Cincinnati. her love of poetry was inspired by her experience as a first-generation Irish American in songs, poetry, and stories from Ireland.
Caitlin acquired a B.A. in English literature and creative writing with honors and Phi Beta Kappa from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a Thomas Wolfe Scholar.
She then completed an M.F.A. in creative writing at Boston University as a George Starbuck Fellow in Poetry. Her professional goals include publishing poetry collections, book reviews, and essays while teaching creative writing and literature at the university.
Mary Jane Drake
Mary graduated from the University of Richmond with a B.S. in summa cum laude and phi beta kappa. in biochemistry and molecular biology. She also has a D.V.M. in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania. Mary Jane Drake.
She completed her doctorate. in microbiology at the University of Pennsylvania and is currently the first in her veterinary class at Penn where she focuses on livestock populations.
