It may include either the payment of a monthly partial scholarship or a lump sum to cover travel expenses. In some other cases, depending on the decision of the committee, it may cover both.

However, have in mind that this monthly partial scholarship covers just a part of the stay abroad and may not be for the whole period of the stay abroad. For instance, if your stay abroad program lasts for six months, the partial scholarship may cover at least three months.

Yet, it’s important to know that the PROMOS scholarship 2022 is not fully-funded. What it does is subsidize your stay abroad expenses during the duration of your program.

The PROMOS scholarship reduces tuition fees for a semester abroad in Australia and New Zealand by 10%, i.e. between 700 and 1200 Australian and New Zealand dollars, depending on the study program.

Furthermore, despite that there is no specific amount or scholarship worth in currency, the aggregate shows that about 1182 euros were spent on each student who was a beneficiary between 2012 and 2014.

So, the minimum amount spent on a student over time following the committee’s decision so far is about 175 Euros while the maximum is 3225 Euros.

PROMOS Scholarship at Ranke-Heinemann Eligibility Criteria

Students and candidates who wish to apply for this  scholarship must fulfill the following requirements;

• Must be a student
• International and domestic students can apply
• take a course for a grant period of 1-6 months
• study at universities or
• stay abroad for thesis projects (outside universities are also allowed)
• must not be a Ph.D. student
• You have already received confirmation of your stay abroad.
• You are not receiving any other scholarships for the stay from German public funds, RWTH, the host university, or the host country.

Admissible Criteria:

The applicants must be qualifying for the program:

• Students who receive a PROMOS scholarship from their home university – regardless of the amount paid out – are funded for a semester or trimester stay at an Australian or New Zealand university.
• Almost all Australian and New Zealand universities and all study programs are available (the only exceptions are the University of Sydney and Edith Cowan University). The Down Under grant cannot be applied for semesters abroad at these universities).
• Discounts on tuition fees and partial awards from individual Australian and New Zealand universities are, however, not a basic exclusion criterion. If the individual university agrees, the Downunder grant also applies to reduced tuition fees. This depends on individual decisions.
• The Down Under grant cannot be applied for semesters abroad at these universities).
• Short stays, language trips, internships, and other stays beyond semesters abroad or trimesters abroad are not funded.
• The Down Under grant can only be claimed once and cannot be combined with the study allowance.

Level/Field of Study

PROMOS scholarship covers all courses and degree programs offered by the university except doctoral courses or students. There are other opportunities for doctoral students to get funding

This scholarship is made available by Germany’s Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) for both international and domestic students.
