So if understanding the differences between these two words, is what brought you here, then you’re reading the right article. And by the time you’re done reading this content, you should have developed a pretty good understanding of the differences between the two words.

Scholarship and Grant in 2022

First and foremost, a scholarship is a form of financial aid meant for the education of an individual. But unlike loans, the money offered through a scholarship does not have to be refunded. In other words, a scholarship is just like receiving a free sum of money for your education.

You should, however, note that scholarships are generally based on merit. In other words, if you have a poor academic performance, you’d find a lot of scholarships you wouldn’t be able to get.

As for the grant, a grant is also a form of financial aid. It also isn’t something you’d have to pay back. In other words, when given a grant, you wouldn’t have to worry about paying it back after graduating. In short, a grant can also be seen as someone giving you some amount of money for free, to take care of your educational needs.

However, unlike scholarships that are generally based on merit, grants do not necessarily take academic performance into considerations. Grants are more concerned about ensuring you can receive education, regardless of your academic performance. In other words, if you’re a student with a low CGPA, you have higher chances of winning grants, compared to scholarships.

While the things discussed in the previous paragraphs account for the major differences between scholarships and grants, the rest of this article would be providing some good scholarship examples.

Scholarship vs Grant in 2022: Scholarship Examples

1 Kansas State University Global Diversity Scholarship

The Kansas State University Global Diversity Scholarship is a good example of what a scholarship looks like. This form of financial aid is open to students from every country of the world, aside from the United States. And the exclusion of US students shouldn’t come as a surprise, because the scholarship is meant for US students.

You should also be aware of the fact that it doesn’t matter what course you’re studying at the university, you are eligible for the scholarship.

However, while the scholarship is open for undergraduate students, it is not open to graduate students. In other words, Master and Ph.D. students are not allowed to apply for the scholarship. The Kansas State University Global Diversity Scholarship has no fixed value. But what I can tell is that it provides partial funding.

For more info, visit the university’s official website.

2 Bruce Lee Foundation Scholarship

The Bruce Lee Foundation Scholarship is another good example of what a scholarship looks like. And as the name implies, the scholarship is sponsored by the Bruce Lee Foundation. This scholarship program has been around for a while and a good number of students win this scholarship every year.

Unlike the Kansas State University Global Diversity Scholarship, the Bruce Lee Foundation Scholarship is open to both Bachelor and Master students. The scholarship furthermore isn’t one of those limited to people studying specific courses at the university. In other words, it doesn’t matter what course you’re studying, you’d be given equal consideration as every other student.

3 AIWA Lucy Kasparian Aharonian Scholarship

The AIWA Lucy Kasparian Aharonian Scholarship is another scholarship we have had around for a while. This scholarship is sponsored by the Armenian International Women’s Association [AIWA], a non-profit organization. But unlike the Kansas State University Global Diversity Scholarship and the Bruce Lee Foundation Scholarship, this scholarship is more restricted. For you to be considered for this scholarship, you have to be a female. But not just that, you’d also have to be of an American descendant.

However, it doesn’t matter if you’re a Bachelor student or Master student, you’d be considered. Ph.D. students would also be considered if they apply. But before applying, ensure your program is related to any of the following: Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Technology, Computer Science, and Architecture; this also applies to Bachelor and Master students.

You can find more info on the Armenian International Women’s Association [AIWA] official website.

4 Japan America Society Of Minnesota [JASM] – Mondale Scholarship

This scholarship has also been around for a while, and some so many students have benefited from this scholarship. As you would expect, the Japan America Society Of Minnesota [JASM] – Mondale Scholarship is open to Bachelor students. It, however, isn’t open to Master and Ph.D. students.

To benefit from this scholarship, you have to be studying at any of the three institutions: Minnesota Colleges, the University of North Dakota, and the North Dakota State University. You should furthermore be aware of the fact that preference would be given to students studying things related to the Japanese culture.

Closing

To conclude this article, the differences between Scholarship vs Grant boils down to merit. While scholarships are generally awarded based on academic performance, grants are generally awarded based on how much you need financial aid. In other words, if you’re struggling financially and also have a poor academic performance, you stand a better chance of getting a grant, compared to getting a scholarship.
