Statement of Purpose for Canada Study Permit:
The statement of purpose for a Canada study permit is a document written to seek permission to study in a university located in the country. This document usually contains between 3000 to 4000 words.
In writing a statement of purpose, you must be as explicit as possible. By explicit, I mean you have to put all the necessary information you want to pass across to the institution.
You may include information such as your study interests, your goals for study, et cetera. The critical thing is to BE EXPLICIT.
Many students find it challenging to write a statement of purpose.
Writing a statement of purpose is quite easy. All you need do is to pattern the right format and follow due procedure. You must do all that is required of you to do.
The first paragraph on your statement of purpose must provide detailed information about your institution.
Include your academic heritage. It is crucial to state the school(s) you have attended in time past.
When writing an SoP letter, you should include other things you do, such as sports, philanthropy, business, et cetera.
The reason and motive for studying should also be stated.
Due to high competition, you should seek to create an impression. Include extra achievements like academic honors (BSc., MSc., PhD), professional examination certificates. Doing this will put you in a favourable position for acceptance.
You must also give reasons for choosing your desired institution. What are the things you like about your school of choice? What are your desired goals for studying?
Make sure you proofread your work. Proofreading helps you to detect errors and also correct them. Remember this also – You are writing to impress!
Below is a Statement of Purpose sample format;
(State your school of choice and the reason for choosing the course you wish to study).
My love for ……… inspired me to study ………………. for my Bachelor of ………. honours. Gaining admission into …….. would ensure I fulfill my dreams of contributing my quota of knowledge in this field to benefit my community and the world at large.
I earned a Bachelor of ……. degree in (School Name, City, State, Country). The knowledge acquired during the study further fueled my passion for changing the world. I became more aware and also more curious.
I graduated with a GPA of …… (add additional information that could favour you). My score goes to show how passionate I am about …….
I learnt the general application of (state the course). Thanks to my undergraduate studies, I was able to receive information about the different branches of (indicate the course). My interest in …….. made me desire to specialize in it. I was enlightened on how the world is in dire need of professionals. The need for professionals is the top reason for my desire to study this course in Canada.
After earning a Bachelor’s degree, I worked as an intern at ……… for a period of ……. (months/years).
(If you have other qualifications such as professional certifications, do well to include them).
Asides from my academic qualifications, I also participate in ……… (mention the extracurricular activities you are involved in).
I developed several qualities which includes effective collaboration and leadership skills as I engaged in these activities.
I have been working as an employee at …….. since ……. It is expedient that I improve my work experience. To do this, I need a higher level of education. I also need to study in a reputable institution like ……. (indicate the school’s name)
On your SoP, write more on your qualifications and qualities. Own it!

I hope to ……….. (state your long term goals).
