The tuition and student fees for full-time students at the University of Victoria are current as of May 1, 2022, however, they are subject to change.

The University of the Victoria’s tuition fees and student fees of full-time students usually depend on various parameters. Such as how many classes you take, your choice of accommodation and also your mode of transportation.

Having your friends who live next door will be great during group studies and be helpful to keep you more informed is a great advantage of staying on-campus. 

The personal space, the time away from the school stress that you can use to enjoy the city is a great advantage off-campus will offer you. 

However, as you consider your options, consider your budget and compare it with the cost of living for the option you make. 

On-campus housing:

The Residence Services at the University of Victoria offers four (4) types of on-campus housing for students which include the dormitory rooms, cluster units, apartments, and family housing.

It is advisable to submit your application as early as possible if you want to live on the campus because the number of applications exceeds available spaces each year. 

The residence fees for the students living on campus are required to be paid before their arrival on campus. When your application is accepted you will receive an email confirming your acceptance which will include your moving-in date. For international students, the Residence Services can be reached if you want to request an earlier move date. If you also plan to arrive after the beginning of the term, the Resident Services at the University of Victoria will have to be informed to avoid the cancellation of your on-campus housing. 

The estimated room and board costs below are for only 8 months.

Fees for meal plans

The fees for double and single dormitory rooms both include the cost of a standard meal plan. Also, the residents in cluster rooms and apartments can purchase tax-exempt meal plans separately.

A $250 security deposit is required to be paid by all. This security deposit is held by Residence Services for the duration of your stay.

Off-campus housing:

The University of Victoria partners with Places4Student.com for information about off-campus housing. They provide information about available rental opportunities for houses, shared living situations, suites, and apartments in the Greater Victoria Region.

It is very important to know that it can be difficult to secure the kind of house you want for off-campus housing while you are out of town. We advise that you plan to arrive in Victoria at least two to four weeks before the beginning of the term to enable you to have adequate time to search for your choice house. 

We strongly recommend that you make plans to reserve temporary accommodation before you arrive. There are hotels, hostels, breakfast inns you can make your choice from in Victoria. The Tourism Website can give you a good list of them. The Visitor Accommodation website also offers you on-campus options.

University of Victoria Scholarships 2022

Now, let’s talk about how you can get some financial aid through scholarships to offset some of the fees you will have to pay to study at the University of Victoria

We know that schooling can be expensive especially in countries like Canada, U.S, and European countries but there is definitely a way out. Scholarships! Well, I know you already know that but what we also know is to give you the right information about the available scholarship opportunities

One of the reasons why people do not get to win scholarships is that they miss out on the criteria required to qualify for scholarships. Below is the eligibility criteria for the scholarships listed below:

Eligibility:

For any international to be considered for an entrance scholarship, the student must first gain admission into the University of Victoria.

International students must send in an interim transcript (if the current secondary school student) or a final transcript (if the student has not attended another post-secondary institution and has graduated within two years of application) by February 28 to Undergraduate Admissions to be assessed for an International Scholarship.

Candidates that are eligible are referred to Student Awards & Financial Aid by Undergraduate Admissions.

  1. Aga Khan Academy Renewable Scholarship:

The scholarship is worth $90,000 and it is payable at $22,500 per year over a period of four(4) years. It is renewable up to three (3) years or completion of the first undergraduate degree. 

It is awarded to a student outstanding in academics and entering an undergraduate degree program at the University of Victoria directly from an Aga Khan Academy, therefore Canadian citizens and permanent residents are not eligible for the Aga Khan Academy Renewable scholarship. 

The recipients of this scholarship are selected based on their academic excellence, community service, school involvement, and leadership. The financial need of the applicant is to be considered.

The following includes the requirements for the scholarship:

  • Must be admitted to the University of Victoria
  • Must be entering your first undergraduate degree program
  • Must have an excellent academic record (“A” average, or a minimum of 32 IB points)
  • Must be an international student on a study permit status
  • Must meet the University of Victoria’s academic and English proficiency requirements. 
  • Must submit an online application through the University of Victoria school website and have all required documents, including their nominator’s documents sent to entrance@uvic.ca between January 01 and February 28.
  • Please note that applicants must be nominated by a school guidance counsellor, principal or head of department in any Aga Khan Academy. 

The nominator MUST be able to have comments to make on the following: the student’s academic performance, future goals, leadership qualities and their potential for success at the University of Victoria.

The nominator MUST fill the required Form B and provide a reference letter of reference and submit to entrance@uvic.ca on or before 28th February.

All required documents sent by the applicant must be received by the Student Awards and Financial Aid before the stated deadline.

  1. East China Normal University Renewable Scholarship:

The scholarship is valued at $20,000 (which is payable at $5,000 per year). It is awarded to an international undergraduate student, academically sound and entering the University of Victoria from the Number 2 Secondary School attached to East China Normal University.

Note: The recipient of the scholarship will be nominated by Number 2 Secondary School attached to East China Normal University.

The scholarship of the student has renewed automatically.  However, the student must have completed a total of twelve (12) or more academic units in any two terms of study between May and April. A grade point average (GPA) of 7.50 or higher on the best twelve (12) academic units must also be maintained.

The scholarship is continually renewed automatically for each year throughout the completion of the student’s first degree full-time study or for a maximum of three years, whichever is the shorter period.

A student with a grade point average (GPA) that is below 7.50 may write a written appeal to the Senate Committee on Awards to seek special consideration for the renewal of the scholarship.

The scholarship of students who are registered in a work experience or a co-op will be renewed automatically when they complete twelve (12) or more academic units in two terms. It is compulsory for the students to have a grade point average (GPA) of 7.50 or higher in the two terms.

Any student who does not take either a co-op, work experience, or academic units for one or more terms may forgo their scholarship.

  1. International Entrance Scholarships:

Twenty (20) scholarships worth $10,000 each are awarded to international students who are outstanding academically and entering the first year of an undergraduate program at the University of Victoria.

 All documents of the applicant, including transcripts, must be sent to Undergraduate Admissions of the University of Victoria by February 28.

  1. President’s Beyond Borders Fund:

Three (3) grants of $5,000 are awarded to international students that are academically outstanding and are from the Asia Pacific region entering an undergraduate program at the University of Victoria.

5. President’s Vietnam Scholarship: Three (3) scholarships of $10,000 each are awarded to international students outstanding in academics and from Vietnam entering the first year of an undergraduate program at the University of Victoria.

Your primary purpose in Canada is to study and must be able to cover your cost of living expenses.
