Thomas J. Baskind, FCRH ‘68, Endowed Scholarship

The Thomas J. Baskind, FCRH ’68, Endowed Scholarship was set up to help Fordham students with their tuition and give them additional help like Tom had as a student and beneficiary of multiple Fordham scholarships.

Thomas J. Baskind was a staunch supporter of his alma mater, Fordham University. He always remembered the scholarships he received to be a blessing and was grateful for the chance they gave him to further his education.

Thomas went to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Grammar School in Astoria (Queens) when he was a child. At Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Tom served as both an altar boy and a lay reader.

Thomas went on to attend St. Francis Prep and, along with his brother (Frank R. Baskind), continued his education at Fordham University.  Thomas was an active participant in the Fordham Club, and during his junior and senior years, he received the Joseph Medill Patterson fellowship in Journalism (1966 & 1967).

Thomas had a long and diversified career with roles at Field and Stream Magazine, as Vice President of CBS Sports, Editor of Lighting Design & Application, and Director of Global Vendor Management at Deutsche Bank. Later on, in life, he worked as a sales consultant and sales manager for himself at Baskind Advisors.

The Scholarship

The Thomas J. Baskind Endowed Scholarship has been created by the Baskind family to support worthy students attending Fordham University.

Baskind himself was honored with a scholarship from The News in honor of the publication’s publisher and founder because of the company’s belief in his dedication to the profession of journalism. In addition to the scholarship, Robert F. Kennedy sent a letter of congratulations to Baskind and wished him the best of luck in his future professional endeavors.
