EXAMS

UC San Diego does not consider SAT or ACT test scores as a factor in admissions decisions from now throughout Fall 2024. If you submit test scores as part of your application, they may be used for course placement after you enroll or as an alternative method of fulfilling minimum requirements for eligibility.

International Students

If your native language is not English and your secondary/high school education was in a country where English is not the language of instruction, you must take the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) examination (academic modules) or the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and have your scores reported to the UC San Diego Office of Admissions. A minimum score of 7 is required for the IELTS and 83 is required for the TOEFL.

What is the SAT Score Choice Policy?

The UCSD has the Score Choice policy of “All Scores.” This means that the UCSD wants you to send all SAT scores you’ve ever taken to their office.

From discussion with admissions officers, we’ve got to know that the 4-6 tests are a safe number to submit. UCSD concentrates on your score.

If you take the test more than 6 times, colleges begin questioning why you’re not developing with each test. They’ll doubt your study skills and ability to develop.

But below 6 tests, we greatly support retaking the test to maximize your opportunities. If your SAT score is currently below 1410, we strongly suggest that you think about prepping for the SAT and retaking it. You don’t have much to lose, and you can potentially raise your score and significantly boost your chances of getting in.

Are there UCSD ACT Requirements for Admission?

The average ACT score at the UCSD is 29. This score makes UCSD Fairly Competitive for ACT scores.

Importantly, the 25th percentile ACT score is 27, and the 75th percentile ACT score is 33.

If you apply with a 27 or below, you’ll have a very difficult time getting admission into UCSD, unless you have something else very impressive in your application.

What are the SAT/ACT Writing Section Requirements?

Both the SAT and ACT have an optional essay section. UCSD needs you to take the SAT Essay/ACT Writing section. They’ll use this as another factor in their acceptance deliberation.

SAT Subject Test Requirements

Schools differ in their SAT subject test specifications. Basically, competitive schools tend to expect them, while most schools in the country do not.

We did not find information that UCSD demands SAT subject tests, and so most likely it does not. At least 6 months before applying, you should still double-check just to make sure, so you have enough time to take the test.

Detailed research into this school confirmed the following information.

You must have a 3.0 GPA (3.4 for non-residents) or higher and no grades lower than a C in the expected high school courses. Also, you can substitute SAT subject tests for courses.

If you don’t meet the qualifications, it is possible to earn admission with a high enough score on the ACT/SAT plus on two SAT subject tests. Finally, very few students each year who don’t meet the above qualifications due to unusual conditions are given “admission by exception,” based on information presented in the personal statement.

Because this school is highly competitive, powerful academic grades are crucial to improving your odds of gaining admission. But if you’re able to score a 1410 SAT or a 33 ACT or above, you will have a high possibility of getting in.

Also, if you apply with a score below a 1410 SAT or a 33 ACT, you sadly, have a low odds of getting in. There are just too numerous other aspirants with high SAT/ACT scores and powerful applications, and you need to compete against them.

Are UCSD Accepting ACT/SAT Scores in Fall 2022?

UC San Diego currently plans to be test-optional for Fall 2022 admissions.

Under UC San Diego’s test-optional admissions policy, nobody will be required to submit an SAT or ACT score for admission consideration, and applications will not be viewed negatively based on the lack of a score.

Actually, this is in compliance with the COVID-safety precautions it vows to upkeep.

From our view, if you have the opportunity, by all means, take the tests. They may be the boost that your applications needs.
