University of Alberta Tuition 2022

An important part of planning college studies is knowing tuition and living costs.

UAlberta offers affordable tuition and cost of living when compared with other major universities, as well as many scholarship opportunities for international students.

Currently, the University of Alberta is developing a new tuition model for international students. The model will be implemented for international students who enroll in new programs starting in Fall 2022. The new program-based tuition model aims to enable international students to know the total tuition cost of their program at the time of their admission to the University of Alberta.

The table below highlights how tuition is calculated for current domestic and international students and those registering for the 2021-2022 academic year.

Incoming International Students (2020/2021)  Program-basedN/AStudents will be offered a tuition guarantee for the program they have been admitted to.

This guarantee means the total cost of program tuition will be calculated based

on the number of credits required to complete the program and will be in place

for the typical time required to complete the program plus one additional year.

All international undergraduate students starting in Fall 2021 will have their tuition calculated using a program-based model. This means you will receive an annual and total program tuition guarantee. Payment of the total program tuition amount can be paid in annual or semi-annual installments and will remain consistent regardless of how many courses you register for.

The reason for the change in international student tuition is because of Bill 19, An Act to Improve the Affordability and Accessibility of Post-Secondary Education passed by the provincial government in November 2018. University of Alberta Students’ Union and Graduate Students’, as well as Association Student associations from across the province, took part in the government’s consultation process, to ensure that the new legislation would best serve the interests of students.

The University of Alberta’s proposed program-based tuition model aims to give international students the financial predictability that they’ve asked for in recent years.
