1. UGA Academic Scholarships
Most University of Georgia Academic (merit-based) Scholarships for first-year students are awarded during the Admissions process. All scholarship awards by the Undergraduate Admissions office are renewable for eight semesters of full-time enrollment or the completion of a Bachelor’s degree. However, to renew the scholarship each year, students must maintain specific academic requirements that are detailed in the award letter.
In addition, each year, at least 14% of the incoming first-year students receive an academic scholarship from UGA.
- Presidential Leadership Scholarships
This scholarship is offered by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions to recruit students with proven leadership and academic success. In order to continue to be eligible for this scholarship, all students must have a UGA GPA of 3.0 throughout their academic careers.
Also, 40-45 students receive a scholarship worth $3,000 annually. This is combined with the Zell Miller/HOPE scholarship for Georgia residents and for students who are non-resident, a Presidential Waiver of the out-of-state fees will be included. This scholarship can be extended for a total of four years.
- Foundation Fellowship
This is one of the most prestigious scholarships offered through UGA. In order to be eligible to apply, applicants are to have been active in leadership outside of school and hold at least a 3.9 high school GPA. Also, students must have a minimum combined SAT I score of 2110, the new SAT (SAT-R) score of 1460, or an ACT score of 33 to apply
Typically, the fellowship provides 18-22 new students an annual stipend of:
12,300 for Georgia residents (in addition to the Zell Miller Scholarship, valued at $9,552 per year,
$20,300 for non-residents (plus a Presidential waiver, currently worth $18,574 per year) and,
$22,300 for international students (plus a Presidential waiver, currently worth $18,574 per year).
In addition, recipients receive additional benefits such as mentoring by faculty, retreats with all other Foundation Fellows, grants for academic endeavors, enrichment seminars, a $9,000 travel grant, and the opportunity to study abroad at Oxford University.
- Bernard Ramsey Honors Scholarship
Typically, the Bernard Ramsey Honors Scholarships awards only 25-30 new students. Applicants are to have a minimum academic GPA of 3.9 (unweighted) and a minimum combined SAT I score of 2110, a new SAT (SAT-R) score of 1460, or an ACT score of 33 to apply.
Also, applicants are to have a record of strong academic achievement and a history of accomplishment and leadership in co-curricular activities.
Successful applicants will receive the following:
Annual stipend: $6,160 plus the Zell Miller Scholarship (currently worth $9,552 per year) for Georgia resident students and a first-year housing supplement of $614;
Annual stipend for non-resident students: $10,160 plus Presidential waiver (currently worth $18,574 per year) and a first-year housing supplement of $1,228
Four domestic spring break service trips, individual travel-study grants of $3,000, seminar, book discussions, mentoring, and a lot more.
However, only students who have applied for the Foundation Fellowship will be considered for the Bernard Ramsey Honors Scholarships.
- One UGA Scholarship
Typically, this is a 35-40 new student award. However, applicants must be academically strong students who provide diversity to UGA based on the University’s broad definition of diversity.
Successful applicants will receive an annual $1,500 renewable award (in addition to the Zell Miller/HOPE scholarship) or a $1,500 renewable award plus a Presidential Waiver of Non-resident fees.
In addition, students must maintain full-time enrollment and a 3.0 UGA GPA.
- UGA Combined Financial Need and Merit-Based Scholarships
- Goizueta Foundation Fellowships
These scholarships are open to first-year students who are fluent in Spanish. Also, students must be US citizens or legal residents who live in Georgia. In addition, transfer students and freshers can apply for this award, provided they begin their first semester at the UGA. Since this is a needs-based scholarship, each candidate must prove their financial needs.
The Goizueta Foundation scholarship carries a minimum value of $3,000 renewable per academic year if the student maintains a minimum of at least a 2.8 GPA.
The deadline for submission of the application is March 20

- UGA Alumni Association Scholarship
Typically, this UGA Scholarship is open to 1 new student and other academically competitive UGA students. Successful applicants receive an annual $5,000 renewable stipend (in addition to the HOPE scholarship and other potential need-based aid).
However, academically competitive students must apply for need-based aid via the FAFSA in January and submit it to UGA.
- Ed Hoard Memorial First Tee Scholarship
This scholarship is open to newly admitted first-year students who are participants in the First Tee Program. Also, successful applicants will receive a scholarship worth $2,000 per year, provided the recipient maintains the required criteria.
However, the first preference is for students with a demonstrated financial need as determined by the Office of Student Financial Aid.

- Coca-Cola First Generation Scholarship
The Coca-Cola First Generation Scholarship is open to students admitted as first-year students who are the first in their families to attend college. In addition, 12 new students receive $5,000 per year if they maintain the required criteria
However, to apply, students must be Georgia residents and have demonstrated financial need as determined by the Office of Student Financial Aid.
Interested students are to complete the FASFA as soon after January 1st as possible.
