University of Saskatchewan Admissions Process
Graduate students are students of the academic unit or department with their chosen program. This is called your academic home. All graduate students are registered students in the College of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (CGPS). Academic units review applications and decide who will be recommended for admission. CGPS reviews these recommendations to ensure minimum admission standards are met and issues the official admission letter.
The admission process for graduate students is a two-step process.
After you have submitted the online application, the academic unit will receive a notice and will be able to:
- Make sure all supporting documents have been received and the application fee has been paid;
- Review your academic background and, where applicable, your English test results;
- Make sure, where applicable, that there is a faculty member willing to supervise you;
- Review your letters of recommendation;
- Make a determination on departmental scholarships, fellowships, or other funding;
- Make a decision on recommending you for admission to the College of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies, or notify you by email or letter that your application was not successful.
The second step involves CGPS Graduate Programs Advisors who will:
- Review the recommendation submitted by your academic unit;
- Ensure all eligibility criteria have been met;
- Either approve your admission into the CGPS and issue you formal letters of offer of admission or work with the unit recommending your admission to satisfactorily resolve any issues.
As soon as a decision about your application has been made:
- You will be notified and can log in to your account to review your decision letter;
- If your application was successful, you will be prompted to accept your offer of admission online through your account;

University of Saskatchewan Course-based master’s and postgraduate diploma programs Tuition Fees 2023
Students in course-based programs pay tuition for each class they take. Each class is assigned a number of credit units (usually three) that determines their cost.
However, If a student is not enrolled in any class for a period, they must register for a “State Maintenance” class that has 3 credits to remain in their program.
Graduate students including international students in course-based programs will be assessed by the credit units.

University of Saskatchewan Medical tuition fees
The College of Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan is located in Saskatoon and was the first and remains the only medical school in the province of Saskatchewan., Saskatchewan’s largest city, it serves the educational, research, and clinical needs of the province.

USask Medicine’s four-year MD program offers 100 select students the opportunity to study medicine in Canada’s prairies, gaining a unique insight into rural medicine.
As the only medical school in the province, USask Medicine conducts research with all of its affiliated provincial hospital networks.
The MD program tuition is $17,998.00 for the 2019-2020 academic year. Applicants who are offered admission must pay a non-refundable deposit of 10% ($1,800.00) of the tuition by the deadline date of the acceptance of the offer.
The tuition for the 2023/2024 school year is $17,474, which is less than most Ontario medical schools. Tuition remains the same regardless of the applicant’s province of residence.
To be considered a Saskatchewan resident, the applicant must have lived in Saskatchewan for three years immediately preceding the year to which the applicant is applying.
Residents of the Yukon, Northwest, and Nunavut territories are also considered under the same criteria as Saskatchewan residents.
Those residing in these territories apply for the same 95 reserved seats that Saskatchewan residents apply to.
Tuition for most undergraduate programs is calculated by adding up the cost of each individual class you’ve registered for. Also, every class is made up of a number of credit units (usually 3) and is assigned a tuition category.

How to pay tuition at the University of Saskatchewan in 2023
Online banking (payments from within Canada)
- One-time setup:
- Log in to your online banking service
- Go to “pay bills” (or your bank’s equivalent)
- Add the University of Saskatchewan as a payee
- The account number is your eight-digit student number
- When paying online, make sure to leave enough time (about three days) for your bank to deliver the funds to the university by the tuition payment due date. Check your bank’s website for information on payment processing times.
- Anyone can pay your tuition and fees on your behalf through their own bank account—but remember to provide them with your eight-digit student number and payment amount.

- MasterCard is the only credit card accepted, and payments are charged a 1% administration fee.

Late payment fees
- The university charges a late payment fee of 1.5%/month (19.6% APR) on the unpaid balance after the payment deadline, and late fees will continue to accumulate until your balance is paid in full. Avoid late fees: make sure to pay tuition and student fees by the published dates, regardless of when a specific class starts.
- Tuition and fees for classes may be paid in two payments: half by the fall term deadline and half by the winter term deadline. If you add a class after a payment deadline, the tuition for that class is due immediately.
- If you haven’t paid by the published deadline, in addition to late payment fees the university will withhold some services until your account is cleared in full.
