South Korea Student Visa 2022 : Step by Step Procedure

This post is a simple step by step procedure guide on Obtaining a South Korea Student Visa 2022

South Korea Student Visa 2021

A student visa enables foreign students of whatever country or nationality to travel to their countries of study and stay the duration of their course without any harassment from the authorities of that country. The visa, obtained at the embassy of the country of the study also tells officials at the airport the reason for and duration of the visit. On the expiration of the visa, the student is expected to have completed his or her course of study and be set to leave the country. Needless to say, without a visa, it is impossible to travel out of one’s country to another for whatever reason. .

A South Korea Student Visa, therefore, is assigned to foreign students who wish to undergo educational study in any Higher Institution in South Korea. The following steps should be taken to successfully obtain a South Korea Student Visa.

How to obtain a South Korea Student Visa 2022

To obtain a South Korea Student Visa of any of the above listed, the following must be done

  • Apply for and gain admission into a Higher Institution in South Korea: If you have not already been offered admission into a South Korean University, you should apply for one, as the admission letter which you’d be given on issuance of admission by the University would be used in the visa application
  • Find out what type of Visa you need: Find out if a D-2 or D-4 visa is what you should apply for. Following the above explanations on the D-2 and D-4 types of visa, you should know, on receipt of your admission letter, what kind of Visa you need to apply for.
  • Know where to apply for the visa: Usually, a South Korean Student Visa can be applied for at the South Korean Consulate or Embassy in your country. An appointment and/or interview can be scheduled through the South Korean Embassy in your country
  • Take Language Proficiency Tests: Normally, the embassies assume that language proficiency tests have been sorted out with the school if you apply for the visa with a letter of admission from the school. However, if admission is yet to be granted, you have to present a language proficiency test score at the Embassy or Consulate. The type of language proficiency test score you provide is dependent on the program you have applied for in South Korea. Proof of English language proficiency –if you apply for English-taught degrees- would be needed. Tests they accept are; IELTS, TOEFL or Cambridge
  • Have all required application documents: Some of such documents include but are not limited to :
  • The filled-out Visa application form
  • Two passport-type photos
  • Valid passport and copies of your previous visas (if any)
  • Official enrollment or admission letter from the university
  • Evidence of financial means to cover all your expenses during your study period
  • Airline ticket/reservation showing date of departure
  • Medical insurance
  • Documents stating the accommodation arrangement during your studies
  • Korean or English language proficiency certificate (where necessary)
  • Proof of payment of the visa fee
  • Proof of civil status (if applicable)

What next?

Upon successful completion of all the above-mentioned steps, the next and most important thing would be to attend your visa interview. It is not enough to attend the interview. You should ensure you’re punctual, very well dressed, and very prepared. This would put you in good stead with the interviewers as you’d be seen as a serious-minded person. Should the interview go successfully, permit me to congratulate you on obtaining your visa successfully. It is, however, essential to note that during the first year of your stay in South Korea as a student, your student visa is enough to serve as evidence of your residency status. Within a month of your entry in France, you will have to register at the local Office of Immigration and Integration (OFII) and have a medical examination to approve your visa. Also, the duration of a student approved student visa cannot be exceeded.

Can I work on a student visa?

Many applicants often come up with this question because they are quick to realize the possibility of running low on cash as their studies progress. Well, it is not impossible. However, students cannot take on fulltime jobs. You may have permission to take a job to support yourself during your studies under a few conditions. You are legally only permitted to work part-time (around 60 percent of full-time employment for a year) and only starting from your second year of studies after you must have received a valid residency permit. When applying for a job, make sure to notify your employer you are an international student so they will only consider your application for a part-time position.
